Our Music Program

Music is a very important component of the worship service at Grace Memorial. The thirteen members of the Chancel Choir and seven members of the Bell Choir, as well as other instrumentalists, are truly dedicated and continuously enhance our liturgy. The organist/choir director quite capably leads us in our music ministry.

Music is a part of all services, except the 8:00 service. At the 10:30 service, the choir leads the congregation in hymns and service music, accompanied by the pipe organ and sometimes by appropriate instruments, such as violin, harp, saxophone, dulcimer, psaltery, flute, piano, trumpet, and trombone. Special presentations of the choir and/or instruments occur during the offertory and communion each Sunday, before and during the Christmas Eve service, and during the Evensong service. The organist prepares the congregation for worship with preludes and sends them out with postludes. The music for each Sunday is based on the scripture from the Lectionary as well as season of the church year. The choir participates in community activities, funerals, and weddings when requested.

Our music department has a pipe organ, three pianos, a keyboard, and a variety of rhythm instruments. We have three octaves of hand bells; however, we normally play only two octaves. We have a rehearsal room and robing room for the Chancel Choir and the Bell Choir. These rooms were originally intended to be used as Sunday School rooms, and the choir will move to another location when the need arises for more Christian Education on Sundays. We also have a well maintained library of choral music. We have offered classes in theory and guitar to the congregation when requested.

The organist/choir director is the only paid member of our music program. All the singers, ringers, and other musicians are volunteers. Some of the volunteers are trained vocalists and musicians. An open invitation to join our music ministry is included in the Touch of Grace newsletter article each month.
