Biscuits Supreme

2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup milk

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt. Cut in butter till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center, add milk all at once. Stir just till dough clings together. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter, dipping cutter in flour between cuts. Transfer to an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 for 6 minutes or till golden.

Swedish Pound Cake

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
5 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup coconut
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup mini chocolate chips

Glaze:
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon almond extract

  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add eggs, 1 at a time. Beat well.
  • Stir in flour until well blended.
  • Add vanilla, coconut, nuts and chips. Mix well.
  • Bake in greased and floured tube pan at 350 for 1 hour. Let cool 10 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, combine sugar and water in pan and boil for 3 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and add butter and almond extract. Stir.
  • Remove cake from pan then return it to pan.
  • With a long bamboo skewer, poke holes in warm cake. Pour glaze over while it's still warm.
